The Art of Being Green Festival
July 12 - 13, 2008

On July 12-13, the Friends of the Tay Watershed took part in the fabulous Art of Being Green Festival in Lanark, Ontario. This festival has the reputation of being one of the best environmental festivals around and it lived up to its reputation again this year. The AOGB brings together an eclectic mix of organizations and individuals who provide green alternatives for people who wish to live an environmentally sensitive lifestyle.

The FoTW went with a wetlands preservation theme this year. We had lots of materials to show the benefits of wetlands to the ecosystem and wetlands critters in bottles to be examined, including many invasive species. We also had a wetlands model, complete with cattails and Flat Freddie the Frog. The model had some interactive features, which allowed kids of all ages to make it rain on Flat Freddie to provide him his preferred habitat with the help of the cattails. It also allowed people to "turn the crank of progress" to remove the "unsightly wetland materials" to observe Flat Freddie's habitat dry up. Many thanks to all of the volunteer staffers, as well as to Duck Unlimited Canada and RVCA for their contributions to our booth.

Shown below are some of the pictures taken of our booth.
